David C. Vath
David Callahan Vath, one of Mercer's respected residents, died at his home in East Butler street alst Friday. Though he had been in ill health for some time, death, which was caused by an affection of the heart, came suddenly and unexpectedly. He was 66 years old. A son of the late Lewis P. and Elizabeth Lutton Vath, he was born May 28, 1868, in Mill Creek township and spent the greater part of his life in Mercer county. After a few years' resident in California, he embarked in the monument business in Fredonia, later moving to Mercer and establishing a shop here. He was a man of fine character and traits and was widely known and respected. He was a member of Hebron lodge, F. & A. M., the New Castle consistory and the East End Fire department. He is survived by his wife; one daugher, Mrs. Clarence Heasley of Greenville; two brothers, John L. of Mercer and Harry H. of Franklin, and one sister, Mrs. H. S. Davis of Axis, Ala. The body was taken to the home of his daughter in Greenville, where funeral services were held Sunday afternoon. Burial was made in Oak Hill cemetery, Sandy Lake.
