Simpkins, Osta May Speir

Submitted by Evelyn Anderson on Mon, 07/26/2010 - 00:25

The subject of this obituary was born June 14, 1870 and went to be with God December 30, 1914. She was the daughter of Elon and Emma Speir and on September 17, 1891 was united in marriage to Fred Simpkins.
She is survived by her husband, mother, and three children: Clyde, Helen and Paul. Three brothers and two sisters also survive: J. M. Speir, Youngstown; A. B. Speir, McKees Rocks; Ora Speir and Mrs. Harry McKinley, Kinsman, Ohio, and Mrs. Harry Hoffman, West Salem.
She was baptized and united with the Maysville Baptist Church November 19, 1887, since which time she was very actively engaged in advancing its work. She was also a member of the West Salem Sunshine Society. The Maysville community has by the death of Mrs. Simpkins lost one of its most valuable and worthy residents. Her large heartedness had become proverbial. In time of distress she was always one of the good Samaritans.
Funeral services were held in the Maysville church, January 2, 1915, conducted by her pastor, Rev. R.L. Crawford, who paid liberal tribute to her worth.
(Burial Rock Ridge Cemetery, West Salem Twp.)
