MERCER BANKER DIES LAST WEEK
Services for Pierce C. Anderson widley-known Mercer banker and businessman, who died in Mercer Cottage Hospital of a heart condition, were held Saturday. He had been confined to his home, 317 Greenville Ave., for about 10 days with the ailment and had been taken to the hospital at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. He died at 1:45 p.m. Mr. Anderson joined the Farmers and Mechanics Bank in March 1908 and had been there ever since it had merged with the First National Bank of Mercer, of which he was a vice-president. He was 74.
Widley known in civic and church circles he was a member of the Official Board and treasurer for 30 years of the Mercer Methodist Church, a charter member of the Mercer Rotary Club, serving as its treasurer for years and was treasurer and board member of the Mercer Citizen Cemetery Association. He also belonged to the Mercer Moose Lodge.
Mr. Anderson was twice married. His first wife, Merle Burgess Anderson, preceded him in death in 1913. His only son, Wallace, died in 1948. In 1917 he married Elizabeth Shea, who survives with two grandchildren in Phoenix; two sisters and a brother. Mrs. Clara Steingrabe, R.D. Mercer and Mrs Matilda Rickert and M.M. Anderson, both of Greenville.
