GREENVILLE: Harriet A. Bates, 89, widow of Harry Bates, died Saturday at the home of Mrs. Gladys Murrin, following a long illness. Born in Jamestown on April 2, 1877, she was the daughter of Abraham and Almira McLaughlin Artman. In 1910 she married Mr. Bates, who died in 1948. Mrs. Bates was a member of First Methodist Church. She was also a member of the West Salem Sunshine Society. She is survived by a brother: Harry H. Artman - Greenville; 6 nieces and a nephew. A brother, Lee Mac Artman and two sisters: Frances (Mrs. John Keene) and Effie (Mrs. Lester Shellito) preceded her in death. {Sharon Herald, December 5, 1966. Buried in Park Lawn Cemetery}
