Conneely Family

Submitted by Thomas F. Conneely on Fri, 04/27/2012 - 00:39

The family records indicate the correct spelling of the surname as CONNEELY.
Even today it is difficult to get it spelled correctly. The family is listed in the 1850 US Census as Connelly but because of the names and ages of the children is certainly the Conneely family. The original immigrant from Ireland, Thomas J. Conneely, died in 1855. In the 1860 Census the survivors are listed as Connoly but, based on names and ages of children, it is clearly the same family. In the 1870 Census the name appears as Connelly. In the 1880 Census the eldest child, Thomas (J) Conneely, Jr., lived in Bradford, PA and is clearly written as Conneely in the handwritten original census page but the transcribed page found on errs in spelling it Connelly. In the 1900 Census it is once again misspelled as Connelly both for Thomas (J) and for his son Thomas F (erroneously listed as Thomas G) who had separate households in Bradford in that year.
